Getting to the Other Side by Charlene Langfur

This is what I do when I have to move forward
even when there is no place to go.
My little wild dog and I are out in the wild grass
leaping between darkness and almost light and
I am planning how far the two of us will walk next,
walk past the fan palm trees covered in fronds,
walk under the formations of birds in the sky
flying fast and perfectly, honking on the move.
and later, sitting with the lavender, with its plethora
of purple blooms outstretched like little angels.
I always look for what is ethereal about plants
and this is how I arrive where I need to go for me,
one more time around, a woman working remotely,
living small as if it is large as if I do not have enough
but I also do. I try making it that way no matter how much I have.
Today I am drawing palm trees with a yellow #2 pencil
and putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle
of a Norwegian fjord and I am writing another poem
to find a way forward, a poem, a recipe to hone out a new path,
a lovely and safe place to stay for a while, both simple and true.
